Twinkles Playschool opened its doors in January 2018 with its groundbreaking school in Rondebosch. Together the founders have spent 9 years on the Board of Governors at a successful Cape Town playschool and have also raised four children of their own. Our passion for early childhood development has grown through these experiences and the schools mission is to have a positive impact on every young child’s life through their time at Twinkles Playschool.
The first five years of a child’s life are the most important years in determining a child’s future happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school as well as in life. 85% of a child’s brain development occurs during the first 5 years of its life. It is therefore during these critical years that child’s foundations are laid down for social behaviour, social boundaries, empathy, responsibility and many other important life skills.
At Twinkles, we believe playschool has a critical role to play in influencing how a child develops and in setting them up for happiness and success later in life. We have developed an approach to caring for and teaching our playschool children to ensure their most important needs are being met. We also judge our success on the happiness and eagerness to learn of the children in our care.
Our classes are organised by the age of the children, the number of children per class and the adult to child ratio is linked to the children’s age group to ensure optimal care. Our Starfish children are between 6 months and 18 months old and the class size does not exceed 8 children with two teachers caring for them. Our Penguins children are 19 months up to 3 years old and the class size does not exceed 14 children with two teachers caring for them.
Finally, our Dolphins class are from approximately 3 years old to 5 years old, the class size does not exceed 18 children with two teachers to care for them. Whilst the children are predominantly kept in their age group some of our activities bring the children together, for example Wednesday snack time all of the children eat together which is always great fun, and for the Dolphins class we split the children into groups by age for their school readiness work which is tailored by age.
Our playschool hours are from 07h00 to 12h30 Monday to Friday.
Afternoon care available Monday to Friday.
We run holiday clubs full of fun activities through the majority of school holidays.
